Amanda Laing is the Managing Director of Nine Entertainment Co., owner of the Channel 9 free to air television business, the video on demand business 9NOW, digital publishing business nine.com.au and joint venture partner in the subscription video on demand business STAN.

As Managing Director, Amanda works with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams across the broadcast and digital businesses of Nine. Amanda has over 15 years’ experience as a senior media executive, with particular expertise in the management and exploitation of content and rights and the structuring and negotiation of sports rights deals, including National Rugby League, International Cricket and Netball.

Amanda began her media career in 1999 as General Counsel for ACP Magazines, the largest magazine publisher in the country at the time, with responsibility for the legal affairs of its publishing, distribution and digital businesses in Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the UK. In 2006, she was appointed Group General Counsel across the magazine and television businesses of Nine (then known as PBL Media), as well as the growing Ticketek and Nine Live events businesses. Following the IPO of the Nine business in 2013, the role of Commercial Director was added to her responsibilities as Group General Counsel. In 2015, Amanda was appointed Managing Director of Nine Entertainment Co.

Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the Australian National University. In 2013, Amanda was awarded the ‘In-House Lawyer of the Year Award’ at the Australasian Legal Business Law Awards. Amanda is currently a director of STAN, Australian News Channel (SKY News) and Pedestrian TV. She has previously held roles as a director of industry bodies FreeTV, CopyCo and OzTAM.

Amanda has mentored many women and has built teams which have predominantly seen more than half of her direct reports being women. Amanda is also known for her work in raising the profile of women’s sport in Australia and is often asked to speak on this issue.
