Andrea Mason is Chief Executive of Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council (NPY Women’s Council), a membership-based community organisation providing community, family, research and advocacy services to the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara women in the central desert region of Australia.

Andrea joined NPY Women’s Council in 2008, initially in an advisory capacity. Since undertaking the Chief Executive role in 2009, NPY Women’s Council has been recognised with several awards, including Winner, 2012 Indigenous Governance Awards, a 2011 Deadly Award for Outstanding Achievement in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health for the ‘No Safe Amount - The effects of alcohol in pregnancy’ campaign and a 2012 Deadly Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Advancement.

Prior to joining NPY Women’s Council, Andrea was Relationship Manager with Reconciliation Australia, where she worked with major Australian corporations and government departments to develop their Reconciliation Action Plans. Previously, she held several roles with the Commonwealth Department of Family, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. In 2004, she became the first Aboriginal woman to lead an Australian political party (Family First Party) to a federal election.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Public Administration and Aboriginal Affairs from the South Australian Institute of Technology.

In 2016, Andrea was named Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year. She was also named Northern Territory Australian of the Year for 2016, for her dedication to helping women in central Australia raise strong and healthy children.
