Carmel Mulhern is Group General Counsel at Telstra Corporation, one of the ASX’s top 50 listed entities and Australia’s biggest telecommunications & media companies. Carmel runs one of Australia’s biggest in-house legal teams, with over 200 lawyers across Australia, Asia, the UK and the USA. She also played a key role in Telstra's first share buyback and the National Broadband Network agreement which was a deal worth NPV AUD$11 billion dollars.
Prior to her appointment as Group General Counsel, she was Company Secretary at Telstra Corporation from 2007-2011 and General Counsel Finance & Administration from 2000-2007.
A lawyer with over 20 years’ experience, Carmel has enjoyed a career as a Lecturer and Tutor in law at Monash University from 1995-2006.
Carmel was a Senior Associate at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons) from 1996-2000 and was Associate to the Hon Justice Mary Gaudron at the High Court of Australia from 1995-1996 and Associate to Hon Justice Philip Cummins at the Supreme Court of Victoria from 1994-1995.
Carmel has a Bachelor of Laws from University of Queensland and a Master of Laws from Monash University.
She is a Director of Justice Connect, a not for profit which provides pro bono legal services in NSW and Victoria and a member of the St James Ethics Advisory Council.
