Francesca Lee is General Counsel and Company Secretary at ASX50 Newcrest Mining Ltd and a member of its Executive Committee. She was General Counsel and Company Secretary of OZ Minerals Limited from 2008 until 2014, and its antecedent companies from 2003.
Francesca has more than 30 years’ experience working across various senior legal and commercial roles within the mining industry including as Group Counsel, Major Transactions - BHP Billiton, Group Counsel - Rio Tinto Limited, General Manager Internal Audit & Risk - Rio Tinto Limited and Group Counsel - Comalco Limited. She also spent several years as Vice President Structured Finance with Citibank Limited and was hired to establish their structured finance team in Melbourne.
Francesca has been on the Board of Metropolitan Waste Management Group and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Victoria. She is also a former member of the Australian Government Takeovers Panel.
Francesca has a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. She has a Graduate Diploma from Governance Institute of Australia and is an alumnus of INSEAD having been sponsored by Rio Tinto to undertake the International Executive Program there.
Francesca has been an avid advocate of gender diversity for many years in the various companies she has worked for, pushing for programs to advance women into leadership roles and to attract more women into the organisation.
