Helen Troup is Managing Director, CommInsure, and as such is a direct report to a divisional chief executive of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), an ASX10 publicly listed company.

Helen is a director of The Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited and Commonwealth Insurance Limited. She is also a member of both the Financial Services Council Life Board Committee and the Insurance Council of Australia Board.

Previously, Helen was Head of Life and Health, Australia and New Zealand for SwissRe, and prior to that CEO at ING New Zealand (now OnePath), where she steered the operation to its recognition as Fund Manager of the Year in 2010. She also held senior roles at ING Australia, including Executive Director, Life Risk and Head of Risk Insurance Markets.

CommInsure’s General Insurance business was awarded Money Magazine’s Insurer of the Year award in 2016, and has also won the award for Outstanding Value Home & Contents Insurance by Canstar, for 10 years in a row. Its Super & Investments business has won multiple awards, including being named ‘Investment Bond Winner’ and ‘Annuities & Income Stream Innovation Winner’ in the 2016 Association of Financial Adviser’s Life Company of the Year Awards.

Helen championed the ‘Back to Wellness’ Program for Comminsure, developed in 2016 to ensure best practice recovery principles are factored into the claims process for customers claiming for mental illness. The Program was awarded the ‘Risk Product Innovation Award’ at the Association of Financial Adviser’s Life Company of the Year Awards.

Helen holds a Bachelor of Economics, Actuarial Studies, from Macquarie University. In 2016 Helen was the Wealth Management representative member of CBA’s Gender Diversity Steering Group. The initiatives she developed and ran included financial education sessions for female employees of both CBA and its key clients. Helen has increased women on CommInsure’s leadership team from zero to 50 per cent and annually sponsors ten high performing women from her business to attend the Women in Insurance Leadership summit.
