Joanne Farrell has worked in the mining industry since 1981.

She has a Bachelor degree in Science, majoring in Psychology and Economics, from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Management from Curtin University.

Joanne's current role of Vice President, Organisation Resources for Rio Tinto's Iron Ore group of companies covers the functions of HR, Health Safety Environment and Communities for operations in Western Australia, Canada, Guinea and India.

Joanne is also a member of Rio Tinto's Iron Ore Executive Committee (ExCo), a board member of both the Rio Tinto WA Future Fund and the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Foundation, and a director of the Committee for Perth.

Joanne's previous roles have included GM HR for Rio Tinto Aluminium, VP HR and Government Affairs for Rio Tinto Energy America in the US, GM HR and Communities for Rio Tinto Exploration based in London, GM HR and External Affairs for Rio Tinto Coal in southern NSW, Manager HR for Rio Tinto Diamonds in Western Australia and Manager
HR for BHP-Billiton Manganese in the Northern Territory.

Prior to working in the mining industry, Joanne was an economist in regional development with the Government of Western Australia, based in Carnarvon.
