BHP Billiton Foundation
Karen Wood has held a number of global roles in BHP Billiton. She joined the company in 2001 as Group Company Secretary and served in that capacity until 2007 when she was appointed Chief People Officer with responsibility for the human resources portfolio for the BHP Billiton Group. In 2010 she also assumed responsibility for public affairs as President, Corporate Affairs. She served on the Company's senior executive team from 2006 until her retirement in 2014.
In 2015 she was appointed Chairman of the BHP Billiton Foundation. The Foundation is an independent charitable organisation established by BHP Billiton to provide grants to not for profit organisations to deliver large, long term global programs in the areas of natural resource governance, human capability and social inclusion and the environment.
Before joining BHP Billiton, Karen was General Counsel and Company Secretary for Bonlac Foods Limited. She has previously served as a member of the Takeovers Panel (2000 – 2012), the Business Regulatory Advisory Group, the JD Advisory Board, University of Melbourne and as a Director of Business for Millennium Development.
She is a director of Djerriwarrh Investments Limited and the Robert Salzer Foundation and a member of the Committee of the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Foundation Council of the State Library of Victoria.
