Kate Jenkins is the Sex Discrimination Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission. Immediately prior to this appointment she was the Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commissioner. Kate is a former Partner specialising in Employee Relations with Herbert Smith Freehills.
As Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Kate’s role is to promote gender equality and compliance with the Sex Discrimination Act. Kate also oversees major projects such as the collaboration for cultural reform in the Australian Defence Force, and the national survey on sexual harassment and sexual assault in university settings. Kate is Convener of the Victorian Male Champions of Change.
Kate is on the Board of Carlton Football Club and the Heide Museum of Modern Art. She is also the Co-chair of Play By The Rules and was a board member of Berry Street Victoria for 15 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Law and Fine Arts) (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.
Kate was recognised in 2015 in the Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence Awards for her work in public policy.
