Dr Michelle Deaker

Dr Michelle Deaker is a former technology entrepreneur turned venture capitalist, a non-executive director on boards (including Seven West Media, an ASX 100 listed board) and a person of significant influence in Australia’s innovation agenda with a belief that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is critical for Australia’s economic development and the future of Australia’s workforce.
Michelle is the founder and CEO of OneVentures, a venture capital firm investing in high growth technology companies. Michelle has extensive experience in the development of high growth technology companies, a strong background in Australian R&D and expertise in global business expansion. Prior to founding OneVentures Michelle founded E Com Industries, which became the leading prepaid card and electronic voucher provider in Australia, servicing over 100 major retail brands including Coles Myer and Woolworths, with operations in the United Kingdom, South Africa and New Zealand.
Michelle serves on the Boards of Seven West Media (Channel 7, Yahoo7, Pacific Magazines and West Australian News), and NICTA, Australia's National ICT Centre of Excellence. Michelle is also a Non-Executive Director of OneVentures portfolio companies Smart Sparrow (e-Learning), Peak3 (emissions monitoring) and Incoming Media (mobile video). She is a member of the AVCAL Venture Capital Working Group and was a member of and consulted on the NSW Government's Taskforce for the Digital Economy. Michelle is also an Advisory Board Member of Head over Heels, a non-profit organisation aiming to increase the representation of women leading high growth businesses.
She holds a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) (double major in Physics and Chemistry) and with both Commonwealth and CSIRO Postgraduate Research Scholarships. She was awarded a Master of Science and a PhD in Applied Science.
