WorkCover WA

As CEO of WorkCover WA one of WA’s largest government entities, Michelle Reynolds sets the strategic direction for the organisation, providing policy advice to government and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the workers’ compensation scheme for workers, employers and insurers in Western Australia.

Since she became CEO in 2008, Michelle has transformed strategic, financial and risk management and planning. In this time, Michelle also implemented a review of the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 – which delivered nation-leading reforms – and was twice seconded to Western Australia’s Department of Premier and Cabinet to deliver key strategic projects.

In her first secondment, Michelle helped establish a new sub-department for the State Emergency Management Committee and develop the State’s first Emergency Preparedness Report. Then, in 2013, she returned to work with the Premier of Western Australia (in his role as Minister for Science) on establishing the Office of Science. This included maximising the benefits of the State’s involvement in the world-renowned Square Kilometre Array (SKA).

Michelle has over 30 years’ experience in state government, is an accomplished chief executive, speaker and thought leader, widely respected for shaping public sector management policy and delivering benchmark reforms in a succession of senior executive roles.

Michelle is an active agent for diversity, and has supported the development of women in each of the government agencies in which she has worked. She has directed several major diversity initiatives, including development of ‘Taking the Lead: Women in the Workforce’ — a strategic framework for attracting and retaining women in government, which was launched by the then Deputy Premier in 2007.
