Brigadier Simone Wilkie completed her secondary education at Ballarat Grammar and was commissioned into the Royal Australian Corps of Signals in 1983. In her subsequent 30 year career in the Army, she has gained extensive experience in the areas of command, operations and training.

As a junior officer she served in a range of regimental and instructional appointments including as a platoon commander within the Army's Recruit Training Battalion; an instructor at the Royal Military College, Duntroon (RMC-D); the training officer in the 7th Brigade Signal Squadron; and as Adjutant of the 1st Signal Regiment and the Army communications unit in Cambodia.

BRIG Wilkie has commanded at all levels within the Army and Joint Defence environment including: as the Officer in Command of 136 Signal Squadron; the Commanding Officer of RMC-D; the Commandant of the Army Recruit Training Centre (ARTC); and the Assistant Commander of the Australian contingent in Afghanistan.

She has also held a number of headquarter-level positions in the areas of human resources, operations and training. Specifically, in the area of human resources she has been the career advisor and lead selections officer within the Army's Officer Career Management Agency; as an operations manager, she has held positions within Army's 2nd Division and on deployment within the Multi National Force Headquarters in Iraq (HQ MNF-I); as a training manager, she has been the Chief-of-Staff for the Army's Training Command and later, the Director-General (Training) within the recently established Forces Command. Brigadier Wilkie currently holds the position of Chief-of-Staff at Army Headquarters.

Brigadier Wilkie was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2008 for her command and leadership at RMC-D and ARTC. She was awarded a United States Bronze Star for her achievements within HQ MNF-I and has also received a Commendation for Distinguished Service for her role as the Assistant Commander of Australian Forces in Afghanistan. Brigadier Wilkie has a Bachelor of Social Science (Human Resource Management), a Graduate Diploma in Telecommunications Systems Management, a Graduate Diploma of Strategic Studies, and a Masters of Defence Studies.

BRIG Wilkie is married to Bill and is a keen sportswoman, renovator and traveler. She is patron of the Australian Defence Force Women's Australian Rules Association and a Director of the Army and Air Force Canteen Service (AAFCANS).
