Managing Director, Global Liquid Strategies
Susan Buckley is Managing Director of QIC’s Global Liquid Strategies (GLS). QIC is a leading investment manager for 90 institutional clients in Australia and internationally, comprising sovereign wealth funds, superannuation funds and insurance companies; with assets under management of around $75 billion. Susan has twenty-eight years’ experience in financial markets.
Susan leads a team of portfolio managers, research analysts and traders. She is responsible for the investment and risk management of $100 billion in effective exposure across cash, fixed interest, inflation, credit, equity derivatives, currency and commodity markets.
Susan has actively globalised her part of the business since 2001, taking it from a team of six people managing $6 billion for Queensland-based clients, to a team of 28 people managing 56 national and international institutional clients. In 2005, Susan won the Insto Magazine Bond Manager of the Year Award and, in 2011 she took out the Telstra Business Women’s Award: Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award (QLD).
Before joining QIC, Susan held executive positions with NRMA Asset Management, Bankers Trust Funds Management and Suncorp Investment Management. Susan also worked as an economist for NAB and was Director, Foreign Exchange Services with Syntec Economic Services.
Susan is a strong mentor to, and advocate for, women in business. She has delivered key presentations on women in leadership at forums such as Women in Finance, Freehills and the Hudson Forum for Women.
Susan is also a strong advocate for the University of Queensland, and is the Chair of the Brisbane BEL (Business, Economics & Law) Alumni Ambassador Council.
