Dr Xiaoling Liu is a company director with extensive experience in China, UK, Australia and the USA, running capital intensive global mining and processing businesses.
Xiaoling was appointed to the board of Newcrest Mining, an ASX50 publicly listed company, in 2015 and, in 2016, she joined the boards of Iluka Resources, an ASX100 publicly listed company, and the Melbourne Business School. In 2017 she was appointed to the board of South 32, an ASX50 publicly listed company, and as a member of the China Matters Advisory Council. She is a past Director of the California Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the University Council of the University of Tasmania and was Vice President of the Australian Aluminium Council. a
In her last executive role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals based in Denver, she ran integrated mining, processing and supply chain operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. Previously, she held senior management and operational roles at Rio Tinto over a period of 26 years including President – Primary Metal Pacific, Managing Director - Global Technical Services and General Manager Bell Bay Smelter.
Xiaoling holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Extractive Metallurgy, from Chongqing University and a PhD in Extractive Metallurgy fromImperial College London. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors,a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and a Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
Xiaoling has coached, mentored and promoted women into tough operating roles, and will continue to contribute to the advancement of women, especially in male dominated sectors.
