Empowering women leaders tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges

There is no shortage of enormous challenges facing the Australia and the world.

Decarbonisation, biodiversity collapse, and how business can better manage our world’s finite resources. The CEW ANZ Sustainability Scholarships are supporting women leaders working on some of these complex problems.

This year, the scholarship supports two women leaders in sustainability to pursue further study up to the value of $20,000.

We’re searching for applicants like last year’s recipient Catherine Peppler. Catherine is Head of Safety and Environment at Aurizon and a passionate advocate for sustainability, She led the development of Aurizon’s Climate Strategy and Action plan, which is looking at ways to decarbonize Aurizon’s operational emissions.

“The sustainability challenges posed to business including decarbonization are some of the biggest problems that our generation must solve,” Catherine says.

“It will require leaders to challenge conventional thinking on business value in order to create and embed sustainable solutions.”

Challenging the way businesses think about value and impact is exactly what fellow ANZ Sustainability Scholar Olivia Tyler is working on. Olivia is Managing Director at Edge Environment and is using her scholarship to complete Oxford’s Measurement Impact course and learning about new ways to measure performance and progress.

“We need new ways of doing business and of operating, of considering what growth and profitability really mean and reconciling our own individual drive for purpose with our daily work,” she says.

“By transforming what and how we measure performance and progress, broadening the frame of reference, to me, is a critical piece of that change puzzle.”
