Carolyn Viney

Carolyn Viney is a CEO and Senior Executive. She has spent a large part of her career in the property industry, most recently as CEO and prior to that Deputy CEO of Grocon, Australia's largest privately held construction, development and real estate investment company. During her time at Grocon she led the successful growth of Grocon's property development business to enable the group to transition from the high risk low return nature of construction which had defined much of its history, to the much more favourable risk and reward equation of property development and real estate investment. Simultaneously she invested in growing the group's profile and project footprint away from its traditional home market of Melbourne and into the much prized Sydney market, where today most of the group's work is located, as well as its expansion into Queensland as a developer. She is passionate about people - those inside the business and those with whom it interfaces externally, the culture of organizations and working collaboratively. An indicator of this is the way Grocon reoriented the way it approached its clients and key stakeholder relationships, reducing disputation across its project footprint (not uncommon in the typically combative construction marketplace) and increasing repeat business clients and off-market, non-tendered transactions. She is a strong believer in giving back to the industries and communities of which she is part. Consistent with this throughout her career she has coupled her executive responsibilities with a range of voluntary and other non-executive roles. They include her roles as Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Australian Institute of Management (Vic), Division Councillor and Victorian President of the Property Council of Australia and her current role on the Advisory Board of Women's Property Initiatives, a not for profit organization which supports women and children at risk of homelessness.
