Catherine Baxter

Catherine Baxter is Chief Operating Officer at Metro Trains Melbourne, responsible for safely operating metropolitan passenger services, on-time and cost efficiently. In this role she leads a team of dedicated and passionate people who are focussed on delivering Metro’s strategic objectives. Catherine’s main focus is to ensure that Metro delivers on its promise to the travelling public of Melbourne. By improving the passenger experience, all while the Rail Network undergoes major growth and changes. Catherine is a strong champion of diversity and improving gender equality in businesses. During her tenure at Metro Trains Melbourne the company has achieved a record 37% of all train drivers being female. In addition there has been increased gender diversity in all other front line and leadership roles within her portfolio. Catherine has extensive experience and expertise in rail operations having previously held executive roles in large national ASX listed businesses including Aurizon, UGL, and Boral. With 30 years of experience in rail she ensures a strong focus on safe and disciplined operations. Catherine is a Fellow of CPA Australia, and member of CITL Chartered Institute Transport and Logistics, an Associate Fellow of ANZ Institute of Managers and Leaders, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In her spare time she is an active member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne, including holding the position of Vice President of the Club and being a Director on the Board.
