Catherine Fletcher
Catherine Fletcher was the Information Commissioner for WA, appointed under the Freedom of Information 1992 (WA) for 7 years until mid July 2025. Catherine has legal and business qualifications from the University of Western Australia and was admitted to legal practice in Western Australia in 1991. For most of her career, Catherine has worked as a legal officer in the public sector in both State and Commonwealth government. For several years Catherine also taught law and practical legal training courses for the Legal Practice Board and at the Universities of Notre Dame and Western Australia. In addition to her legal work, Catherine has held numerous voluntary roles on boards and committees including the Law Society of WA, Notre Dame University, Women Lawyers WA and several sporting organisations and governing bodies. In addition to her most recent role as Information Commissioner, Catherine was also an ex-officio Commissioner of the State Records Commission under the State Records Act 2000 (WA) and the chair of the Commission for 2 years. She is also a member of Australia’s Open Government Forum hosted by the Federal Attorney General’s Department. In addition, Catherine is a keen surfer and former competitor at amateur surfing championships across Australia and is also married to Mark with whom she has three adult children.
