Christine Kilpatrick has been Chief Executive of the Royal Melbourne Hospital since 2017. Previous appointments include Chief Executive, the Royal Children’s Hospital from 2008 – 2017, Chief Medical Officer Royal Melbourne Hospital and Executive Director Royal Melbourne Hospital from 2004-2008. Prior to these appointments she was a neurologist, specialising in epilepsy. Throughout her career Christine has had a number of leadership roles. As a neurologist she established and led the RMH Epilepsy Program and was the inaugural chair of the Victorian Epilepsy Centres established to coordinate standards of care and collaborative research and education programs. She was a member and later chair of the Women’s and Children’s Health Board and chair of the Victorian Quality Council during which time she led a range of initiatives that have improved patient safety and quality of patient care in Victoria’s health system. Christine is a member of several boards including, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for medical research (WEHI), The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, HealthShare Victoria and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) Alliance. She was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003, included in the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2014, in 2017 was a recipient of the Inaugural Distinguished Fellow’s Award, Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, in 2018 inducted in the top 50 Public Sector Women and in 2019 appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medicine through senior administrative roles, to the promotion of quality in health care and to neurology.
