Claire Wivell Plater

Claire currently serves as a Non-executive Director of 6 financial services businesses: Youi Insurance (Chair of Board Risk Committee) Aware Financial Services (Chair), Athena Financial, AuditCover, Zero Hash Australia and Valeur (Chair). She is also an strategic adviser and investor with a number of early stage technology ventures. In her early career, Claire spent 11 years as a partner of Philips Fox (now DLA Piper), where she developed digital compliance training, litigation management software and a financial services distribution joint venture with a UK based firm while simultaneously running a large insurance litigation practice. In 2002, Claire founded her own firm, financial services regulatory specialist, The Fold Legal, which grew to c.20 (predominantly female) staff before its sale to Halo Group in 2021. An active thought leader, since 1988, Claire has delivered over 300 presentations and publications in Australasia on financial services legal and regulatory issues. She was a member of ASIC’s Business Advisory Committee for over 9 years. She was instrumental in the establishment and growth of Australia’s fintech sector, assisting to found Fintech Australia, serving on the inaugural Australian Government FinTech Advisory Group and leading a number of industry working parties contributing to government policy development in diverse areas such as the regulatory sandbox, digital advice and blockchain regulation.
