Esther Kerr

I joined Macquarie Group as a graduate and spent nearly 10 years working within risk management and then the infrastructure group -in Sydney, London, and China. I was fortunate to work with incredibly talented colleagues and clients and had exposure to a range of industries, transactions, and jurisdictions. I joined Boston Consulting Group as a senior hire in 2011. At BCG I experienced being part of a business that is conscious of the opportunities for its women consultants, mindful of unconscious bias, and proactively working to adapt practices such that women achieve in the mainstream consulting track. I benefitted from having a sponsor, being part of the X-files, and friendships with relatable women who didn’t pretend everything easy, but who were excelling, nevertheless. I worked for clients in a variety of industries, including FMCG, financial services, construction, and the public sector. I left BCG to take a role in the inaugural leadership team of the NDIA. I hoped the role would be a once-in-a-career chance to contribute to a reform that married my social and economics beliefs. I built a team, working nationally, and set up the first pricing and provider registration capability for the Scheme. I remain inspired by the many people who continue to advocate for participants and provide support (paid and unpaid) to many. I joined Australian Unity in 2017 as the Group Executive Finance & Strategy and was appointed to my current role CEO -Wealth & Capital Markets in 2020. I feel that, at AU, I have found an institution where my skills are useful, and I can have positive impact. Importantly, I am also able to be available, and present, for my three children and proud to share with them what I do each day.
