Georgie Somerset

Georgie Somerset AM is an industry leader and strategist with boundless energy for the potential of women. She was a founder, and later president, of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network – QRRRWN, and held roles on the board of the National Foundation for Australian Women. Being based in rural Queensland on a multi-generational beef property, Georgie is adept at overcoming challenges associated with her career and philanthropic callings. Her resilience and forward-thinking, out of the square approach coupled with her leadership and collaborative skills has seen her appointed to numerous boards across the not-for-profit, government and industry sectors. Georgie is currently a Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), is the General President of AgForce Queensland, Deputy Chair of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), and a director of the National Farmers Federation, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the RFDS Foundation. Georgie’s philanthropic commitment sees her Chair the Red Earth Community Foundation, and has seen her serve on a number of advisory committees for regional development, tertiary institutions, industry and community groups, including the Australian Broadband Advisory Council, the Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee and a number of government review panels. Georgie was awarded an Order of Australia in for significant service to primary industry, to women, and to the community. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and the Institute for Resilient Regions.
