Joanna Brand

I am an experienced non-executive director, executive, lawyer and company secretary with significant legal, risk, governance and commercial skills developed through almost 30 years’ experience in industries including infrastructure, energy, aviation, financial services and retail throughout the Asia-Pacific and North America, and all aspects of the business cycle from start-ups through to the listed environment. I have been fortunate to have an international life and career, living in five different countries by the age of 10 before settling in Australia, and then spending the ages of 17 to 28 in the United States, completing my undergraduate studies at Duke University and my law degree at Harvard. I returned to Australia approximately 25 years ago, and have since held a range of roles, including as General Counsel/Company Secretary of ME Bank, ASX-listed Billabong International, Nasdaq-listed IREN, and Epic Energy, and served as Chief Legal Counsel for Jetstar Airways and Acting General Counsel for Senex Energy. I have also worked on projects including QCLNG and PNG LNG. Since returning to Australia, I have completed my MBA (Executive) and the AICD Company Directors Course and attended Women on Boards Next Generation program and the Harvard Club of Australia Leadership Program. I am currently on the Boards of Powerlink Queensland (where I am Chair of the People, Safety & Environment Committee and a Member of the Mega Projects and CopperString 2032 Committees) and the Melbourne Writers Festival (where I am Deputy Chair). I am passionate about advancing women's leadership and promoting gender equity.
