Kate Torney
Kate Torney was appointed CEO, State Library Victoria (SLV) in November 2015. Kate has overall responsibility for managing the State Collection and the Library's operations. SLV is one of Australia's oldest cultural institutions and with more than two million visitors each year it is one of the busiest libraries in the world. Since joining the Library sector in 2015, Kate has been elected Chair, National and State Libraries Australasia and Chair Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums. She also serves on two Ministerial Advisory Committees in Victoria. Prior to her current role Kate had more than 20 years in the media sector culminating in her appointment as Director of News at the ABC in 2009, managing 1400 staff across eight capital city newsrooms, 11 international bureaus and more than 50 regional and suburban locations throughout Australia Kate began her journalism career in the field as a radio and TV reporter, producer, bureau chief, executive producer and editor. Kate holds a Bachelor of Communication (Media) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She has attended the Executive Leadership Course - The Leadership Edge at Wharton and the Accelerated Leaders Program at the Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales.
