Kim Lawry

For more than 25 years, I have provided audit and assurance services to some of Australia’s most significant financial institutions. I joined KPMG in 1997 and became a Partner in 2009. I have served on KPMG’s Board since 2021 and I am a member of two KPMG Board Committees - the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee and the Audit Quality Committee. I hold several national and global leadership roles including Global Lead Partner for Westpac, Lead Partner of the National Banking Audit and Assurance Practice, Chair of KPMG's Global Banking Lead Audit Partner forum, and Australian representative on KPMG's Global Banking Audit Quality Committee. In recognition of my leadership in the global banking sector, I am on the UNSW led Advisory Board for the Institute of Global Finance and a Global board member of the Institute of Global Finance.
Throughout my career, I have benefited from diverse experiences. I consider my 5-year secondment to Switzerland as a formative part of my career. “I was supporting one of the world’s largest banks through significant market disruption during the GFC. I learned so much in a concentrated period about financial markets, risk management, capital and liquidity – but more importantly, I learned about leadership and how critical it is to be connected with team and my client, working side-by-side as one team as they navigate change.”
My passion for connectivity and teamwork is evident in how I lead my own teams and people. I was the People, Performance & Culture partner for Sydney Financial Services, and I am part of KPMG’s Diversity & Inclusion network.
I champion diversity by mentoring and sponsoring females and culturally diverse future leaders.
“I am a working parent and a leader of diverse teams, I see firsthand the benefits of diversity and flexibility. As a partner and a KPMG Board member, it is my commitment and responsibility to ensure that a diverse range of views and perspectives are heard and reflected in every decision we make.”
Outside of KPMG, I am a hands-on parent to my three children and strong proponent of sport as a way of connecting and empowering people. I am a volunteer surf lifesaver at North Curl Curl SLSC and coach a cohort of 80 ten- year old nippers, teaching them core life and surf skills. Over winter I manage two netball teams of teenage girls. My goal is to make this fun and also keep the girls engaged, as this is an important age where girls drop out of sport, losing the sense connection and community. I role-model health and wellbeing myself, and am a keen rower at Mosman rowing club, representing both my club and my state at National level.
