Margie Seale

Margie Seale is a Non-Executive Director of Westpac Banking Corporation and Scentre Group. She is a Member of the Board Risk, Board Remuneration and Board Nominations & Governance Committees at Westpac and a member of Scentre Group's Human Resources Committee. She is also a non executive director of Westpac Scholars Trust and Pinchgut Opera. Additionally she mentors for CMiMerryck.
Prior to her board career, Margie was CEO of Random House Australia and New Zealand for more than a decade, delivering record profits while successfully making the transition from an entirely print world to a market in which digital became central to success. In 2010, she was appointed to the additional role of President, Asia Development on behalf of Random House worldwide to explore and evaluate potential business opportunities in the Asian region. Margie has proven skills and expertise in creating products, understanding customers, building brands, driving organisational change in industries impacted by technological and digital disruption, turning around underperforming businesses and governing complex organisations. She has experience in the telecommunications, financial services, health / medical research, FMCG and the media / publishing sectors.
Her prior board positions have included Telstra Corporation, BOQ (Bank of Queensland), APH (Australian Pacific (Holdings) Pty Ltd), Ramsay Health Care, Sydney Writers' Festival, Chairman of Penguin Random House Australia & New Zealand in 2015-2016, Chief Executive Women (chairing its Scholarship Committee) and the Powerhouse Museum.
Margie began her publishing career in the 1980's at Pan Macmillan, Australia, as a sales representative. Her final role in her eight years at Pan was as National Marketing Manager. After several years in other industries, including some time as National Sales Manager for Oroton, Margie returned to publishing in 1997 as Chief Executive of Lansdowne Publishing and The Macquarie Dictionary Company before joining Random House in 2000. In 2015, Margie started Ponder & See, a philanthropic literary travel company supporting literary festivals and writers around the world.
