Mary Padbury

Mary is a board member of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Richmond Football Club and Chair of the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health Limited. She is also a Custodian of Ormond College at the University of Melbourne. She was formerly the inaugural Chair of the Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board, the Federal Government body which regulates the patent attorney profession in Australia and New Zealand on the appointment of the Cth Minister for Innovation, Industry and Science and Chair of Clinical Genomics Technologies Pty Ltd. She is a past a board member of Melbourne Girls Grammar, GI Cancer Institute and Melbourne University Law School Foundation and member of the Cth Attorney-General's International Legal Services Advisory Council and Victorian Legal Admissions Committee. Mary was formerly a partner at Ashurst (formerly Blake Dawson) specialising in intellectual property law for 29 years (1989-2018). She was the elected Chairman of Blake Dawson/Ashurst Australia for 8 years (2005-2013). On the merger with Ashurst LLP, Mary was elected Vice Chairman of the global firm, a position she held for 4 years (2013-2017). Mary previously worked in London on secondment at intellectual property boutique, Bristows, in 1985-1986 and as resident partner of Blake Dawson in 2000-2002. Mary is a past Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia and has been a World Intellectual Property Organisation domain name panellist since 2000.
