Born and educated in Sydney, Mary Vallentine has had a career in arts administration for more than forty years. A graduate in music and drama from the University of Sydney and UNSW, her professional roles have included Administrator - Adelaide Festival (1978-82), General Manager - State Theatre Company of SA (1978-84) Managing Director - Sydney Symphony Orchestra (1986-2003) Arts Consultant - Australian Dance Theatre, Victorian Opera, NZ Symphony Orchestra (2003-2006) Director Production Services - Asian Games Ceremonies, Doha (2006) Director Business Development- Musica Viva Australia (2009-10) CEO- Melbourne Recital Centre (2010-2016) Vice Chancellor's Professorial Fellow, Monash University (2017-2020) Classical Music Advisor/Opera Producer- Adelaide Festival (2017-2021) Arts Consultant - since 2021 - Australian Chamber Orchestra, NZ Symphony Orchestra, Pro Bono Board Roles Chair, Australian Youth Orchestra (2006-2016) Director, Malthouse Theatre (2016-2024), Member, Monash University Campaign Council (2021-2025) Director since 2017 Flinders Quartet Ukaria Cultural Centre Naomi Milgrom Foundation.
