Melina Morrison

For over 25 years, Melina Morrison has led transformative change on behalf of co-operatives and mutuals in Australia and internationally. Melina led the formation of Australia’s first, national body for co-operatives and mutuals (the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals) building the membership to more than 100 members since forming in 2013. As the inaugural CEO of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), Melina led the industry campaign for crucial legislative reforms to the Corporations Act to enable co-operatives and mutuals to access capital for investment and growth leading to more than $450 million raised through Mutual Capital Instruments. Melina advocates for co-operatives and mutuals in all sectors of the economy including finance and insurance, motoring, agriculture, retail, housing and social care. Melina led the development of a world first strategy framework, Mutual Value Measurement©, to measure the total value creation of co-operatives and mutuals. She has raised $27 million in government funding for developing new co-operatives and mutuals in agriculture and care. Melina is leading a project to develop the first reporting framework for cooperatives for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Melina has commissioned the first DEI reports benchmarking gender, disability and Indigenous inclusion in the Australian co-operative and mutual sector. She is a director of the Australian Mutuals Foundation which assists financial co-operatives in South-East Asia.
