Miriam Stiel
AllensMiriam is an intellectual property lawyer with over 20 years' experience, having started her career as a lawyer at Allens in 1997. She became a partner in 2007. Miriam was the Sydney Staff Partner from 2010 to 2018 and has been the Practice Leader of the Intellectual Property, Patents & Trade Marks Attorneys group since 2015. She joined the Allens Executive Committee in 2021.Miriam's practice spans all aspects of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters. She regularly acts in high profile disputes and handles the Australian and international trade mark portfolios for some of the world's most recognisable brands. Miriam is consistently recognised as a leading intellectual property practitioner in Australian and international directories, including being ranked as one of the Global Top 250 Women in IP in 2021. Client feedback provided to Chambers Global has described Miriam as an "excellent litigator and collaborator" and "a joy to work with". Miriam is a member of the IP Committee of the Law Council of Australia, the Enforcement Committee of the International Trademark Association and the Women in IP and AI and New Emerging Technologies Committees of the Intellectual Property Owners' Association.Miriam has a keen interest in the education and not-for-profit sectors, having been a director of St Lucy's School from 2007 to 2017 and on the College Council, Board and Risk and Compliance Committee for St Ignatius' College Riverview since 2015. She was also a director of OzHarvest from 2012 to 2021.Miriam and her husband Ben have 3 children, aged 13, 15 and 17.
