Sam Retallack

I live in Perth, W.A with my husband, two adult sons (24) and (20), and two aging Burmese cats. I originally (1989) graduated from Curtin University with a Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing). Later (2011) I gained a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science (Nutrition) from Edith Cowan University, and was recognised in the Vice Chancellors Top 100 for two years running. I have had a fortunate career with commercial and people focused leadership roles in a diverse range of industry sectors (Retail / Aviation / Health & Biomedical Research / Legal / Mining) before joining Independence Group (now IGO) as a Human Resources Advisor in March 2012, and subsequently progressing to become Chief People Officer in 2022. In 2020 I was proud to be recognised in the WIM100 for my work as a leader and mentor. My experience has provided me with deep insight into and detailed knowledge of cultural development and change management – designing and implementing change programs to support the achievement of business strategy, challenge of the status quo and the promotion of positive creative and innovative thinking. I was recently appointed as a Director of Youth Focus (a not-for-profit organisation, focused on adolescent mental health support and services) and as a Committee Member - AREEA People and Culture Advisory Committee. I have also been privileged, over a number of years, to directly mentor many young people through the WIMWA and Pride Professionals mentoring programs, providing support and guidance in their personal and professional development.
