Dr Sarah White is Chief Executive Officer of the not-for-profit The Jean Hailes Foundation (Jean Hailes for Women’s Health), Australia’s national digital gateway for women’s health information and a leading non-governmental organisation providing health information, health professional education, and insights and advice on women’s health (including the social and commercial determinants of health) to state and national policy-makers. Her career started with a PhD in paediatric genetics at the (now) Murdoch Children’s Research Insitute followed by several years as a postdoctoral fellow at University London College. After retraining to focus on science literacy, she was offered the opportunity to start an Office of Communications for the New York-based Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, at the time, the largest international cancer research institute. After 8 years as a member of the senior executive at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, she returned to Australia and headed communications and fundraising (with executive oversight of the hospital’s research portfolio) at The Royal Women’s Hospital for 5 years. Prior to joining The Jean Hailes Foundation, Dr White headed Quit, Australia's most comprehensive tobacco and vaping control program, for 8 years. Dr White is a member of the National Women’s Health Advisory Council, the Victorian Women’s Health Advisory Council and the Therapeutic Goods Administration's Women’s Health Products Working Group. Dr White has held several non-executive director roles in both New York and Melbourne. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne and still an active researcher with more than 40 peer-reviewed publications.
