Sharon Flynn

Sharon Flynn is a Not-for-Profit CEO with 22 years’ experience in healthcare-related membership and clinical education companies. She is currently CEO of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (2017) and previously CEO of Coast City Country Training (2002). A common thread in Sharon’s choice of CEO roles has been the challenge of raising the profile of traditionally under-valued workforces and finding ways to support and grow professions suffering critical workforce shortages. Integral to these have also been supporting the role of women in medicine and STEM, and not letting governments forget about the inequities experienced by rural and regional communities in accessing quality healthcare. Her strengths include strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. She is well known and respected in the primary health care education sector as an advocate for primary care, strengthening rural health workforces and quality assurance of clinical education frameworks. Sharon is equally respected in the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) and particularly the NSW and ACT Synod for her continuing role in ecclesial governance; beginning firstly with theological education, and progressing to include regional community engagement, strategic investment in mission projects, gender equity-related projects as a member of the Wesley College (Sydney University) Council, and overall governance of the Church in NSW /ACT. Neuroscience based leadership, and organisational learning and transformation, are key interests. When not working Sharon is travelling, cooking for large dinner parties, watching Korean Drama, caring for an adopted greyhound, or having deep conversations with her family.
