Shelley Cable

Shelley Cable
Shelley Cable is a Wilman-Nyoongar woman from Perth, Western Australia, and the Director of Generation One, an initiative of Minderoo Foundation. Shelley has dedicated her career to promoting Indigenous leadership and economic empowerment, highlighting that self-determination begins with secure employment. In 2017, Shelley presented to the United Nations on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and had her recommendations on financial literacy accepted and formally endorsed. She was also elected to attend the Uluru Convention on Constitutional Reform, which resulted in the formation of the historic Uluru Statement. She has been widely recognised for her leadership, including as the winner of Curtin University's Young Alumna of the Year Award 2017 and as a Finalist in the Western Australian of the Year Awards in both 2017 and 2018. At just 24 years of age, Shelley was appointed CEO of Generation One in 2019 – becoming simultaneously the youngest, and first female leader in its 10 year history. Since then, she has led the national expansion of the initiative and the creation of Australia’s first Indigenous Employment Index – progressing towards Generation One’s mission to get 300,000 more Indigenous Australians into work by 2040. Shelley is also a qualified accountant (CPA) and company director (GAICD), member of the Noongar Charitable Trust Advisory Council, member of the BCA’s Indigenous Engagement Taskforce, and past member of former Minister Ken Wyatt’s Reference Group for Indigenous Jobs, Skills and Wealth Creation.
