Tamar Chayen Krebs
Tamar Krebs founded Group Homes Australia (GHA) (grouphomes.com.au) in 2009 and has built GHA to a network of 13 homes with 9 additional homes currently under construction. Her entrepreneurial flair is underpinned by an unwavering focus of “Doing Dementia Differently” and enabling residents to live a flourishing life with meaning and purpose. Tamar is globally recognised as a leader in dementia care and is a regular keynote speaker at industry conferences and symposiums. In the recent Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality & Safety, Tamar was called as an expert witness and the Final Report recommended the GHA model as its preferred option of accommodation. She believed that there was a better way for people with dementia to live and for them and their loved ones in both life and the end of life journey. GHA takes an innovative approach to the physical environment, staff training and social and operational matters. Physically, GHA is nothing like an institution: staff do not wear uniforms and everything looks, feels and smells like a home. Residents follow a normal routine that works for them and are involved in day to day activities such as cooking, gardening, outings, craft and regular activities which give their lives purpose and meaning
