Xiaoling Liu

Dr Xiaoling Liu is a company director with extensive experience in Australia, USA, UK and China, running capital intensive global mining and processing businesses.
Xiaoling has been a Non-Executive Director on the board of South32, an ASX50 publicly listed company since 2017. She also served on the boards of Incitec Pivot, Newcrest Mining and Iluka Resources, all ASX100 publicly listed companies, and the Melbourne Business School between 2015 and 2024. She served as the Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology between 2020 and 2022.
In her last executive role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals based in Denver, she ran integrated mining, processing and supply chain operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. Previously, she held senior management and operational roles at Rio Tinto over a period of 26 years including President – Primary Metal Pacific, Managing Director - Global Technical Services and General Manager Bell Bay Smelter.
Xiaoling holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Extractive Metallurgy, from Chongqing University and a PhD in Extractive Metallurgy from Imperial College London. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and a Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
