Offered in partnership with ANZ, the CEW ANZ Woman Leader in Sustainability Scholarship is awarded to exceptional women working in environmental sustainability, corporate sustainability, or sustainable finance, supporting their advancement into more influential roles to lead and accelerate sustainable outcomes.
In 2024, Madeline Greer was one of the recipients of the ANZ Woman Leader in Sustainability Scholarship.
Madeline has over a decade of experience in sustainability and social impact gained from leading strategy, design and community investment programs in the corporate, and for-purpose sectors. In her current role as Principal Designer - Community Experience, at Hireup, a leading NDIS-registered online disability services provider, she is responsible for shaping strategic programs that drive community engagement, enhance service quality, and improve quality of life for people with disability across Australia.
Madeline opted to use her scholarship to attend the Oxford Impact Measurement Program at the University of Oxford, saying,"By getting exposure to the leading methodologies and approaches to measure and manage social impact, I hope to guide organisations to make informed decisions, foster accountability, and improve the value we generate for communities and stakeholders."
Having completed her studies, Madeline shared with us some of her experiences.
Reflecting on global best practice in social impact measurement & management
By Madeline Greer
I applied for the CEW Woman Leader in Sustainability Scholarship seeking to take my career to the next level, by investing in my skills to lead and influence social change. I was thrilled to receive the scholarship and have the opportunity to complete my dream course at my dream university - The Executive Impact Measurement Programme at Oxford Said Business School.
To say this programme is transformative for my knowledge is an understatement. The course material covered a range of fascinating topics, including the live debates in theory and practice of impact measurement, including international standards, values and perspectives on why and what measurement should aim to achieve.
Material also evaluated the technical tools and approaches to measure social impact, for example impact valuation and monetisation, impact accounting, and how to assess evidence of change.
The program brought together the practitioners and researchers working in impact measurement and management. The cohort included 30+ leaders working in various sectors; including finance, philanthropy and impact investing, healthcare, the arts, government and international development.
The opportunity to connect with and learn with like-minded leaders through workshops, tutorials and brainstorming sessions was invaluable. I am excited to remain connected to this community through the Oxford Impact alumni program, so our conversations and network can continue growing long after the program finishes.
It reminded me how vital it is that leaders in the for-purpose, corporate and non-profit sectors have opportunities to learn from each other, and share influencing strategies. It also reinforced the importance of incorporating the voices of impacted stakeholders, service users and beneficiaries into how we manage, design and evaluate social programs.
The world faces numerous sustainability challenges that will shape the human rights and wellbeing of people and environments globally; compounded by geopolitical complexity, the climate crisis and technological change. As a sustainability practitioner, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to complete this course.
Oxford’s Impact Measurement Programme will equip me to more effectively lead social change across my career, and the learnings will enhance my soft skills in influencing how impact is managed in my current and future roles.
For any woman who is considering applying for a CEW Scholarship, I’d say - go for it! The whole CEW scholarship experience - from the application process to post-program evaluation and reflections - is designed to invest in exceptional women and help you succeed.
I found the scholarship experience, from writing my application to completing the course, incredibly empowering. It prompted me to reflect on my career to date, solidify my future ambitions and plan out a strategy to get there via investing in my professional development. I can’t recommend the CEW Scholarship program highly enough!
