Congratulations Amanda Christie: 2022 Bonnie Boezeman AO Leadership in Nursing Scholar

The care sector is the backbone of communities around the country, especially over the past two years. Supporting women in leadership in care sectors is more important than ever.

Chief Executive Women (CEW) would like to congratulate Amanda Christie, the 2022 Bonnie Boezeman AO Leadership in Nursing scholar. This scholarship is made possible with thanks to the generous support of CEW member Bonnie Boezeman AO.

This scholarship will enable Amanda, who is Deputy Director of Nursing at Legacy Nursing Home in Coffs Harbour, to further her career and impact in this vital sector.

Amanda is a passionate practitioner and mentor with a commitment not only to outstanding care for the residents of Legacy, but to making a positive difference on the aged care system more broadly.

In her own words:

“I have wanted nothing more than to have an opportunity to motivate nurses to provide quality care and ensure they have the tools to do this. I would also like to be able to use my position to influence aged care reform for the better and be a voice of advocacy for our most vulnerable.”

“Aged Care is facing a period of major change at a time when many nurses are burnt out and frustrated. I plan to stay the course and be part of the overall reform in this vital area of healthcare.”

Bonnie Boezeman AO noted this passion as one of the reasons she stood out as a candidate.

“What the review panel found most impressive is Amanda’s passion for nursing within the aged care sector and her determination to devote her energies to help fulfil the much-needed reform suggested from the Royal Commission into the aged care industry.”

“Due to the crisis in nursing shortages in Australia, we need to find ways to support women nurses to develop the leadership skills that will help them both advance their own careers as well as grow the nursing sector as a whole. Amanda was an outstanding candidate, and her leadership growth potential is endless.”

Bonnie Boezeman AO is one of the founding members of Chief Executive Women and this scholarship funds the completion of a Master of Healthcare Leadership from Southern Cross University. It is open to registered nurses with at least five years’ experience and an intention to take on leadership roles in the healthcare sector.

Registered Nurses were listed as one of the most in-demand professions over the next five years this week on the Skills Priority List. CEW is a proud to enable women leaders in the nursing sector.
